This recipe is for a DIY overnight lip mask to help keep lips covered and moisturized throughout the night. This recipe is made with only natural ingredients and will throughly nourish your lips.
If you are subscribed to my newsletter you might know I had to do A LOT of experimenting to find the perfect Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask dupe recipe. I made so many lip balms including my Lanolin Balm which turned out to be awesome for dry skin (just not the lips because lanolin has a weird smell) and now this recipe I’m sharing with you today. There’s an overload of lip balms on my blog I know, but no two lip balms are alike and each has it’s own claim to fame.
This recipe I threw out because it just wasn’t the creamy, shiny balm I needed for the Laneige dupe but I let it live on my bathroom counter for a few weeks. In that time I randomly would use it to relieve my dry lips. The more I used it I realized what an amazing lip balm it turned out to be. It is so thick and nourishing and when applied before bed it is so effective it is still there when you wake up. Talk about the perfect overnight lip mask! I scented it with Tutti Frutti candy flavoring and that turned out to be quite lovely as well. So excuse me for being redundant lately but this balm is too good to not share!

- 2 tsp. Jojoba Oil
- 2 tsp. Shea Butter

- Glass Pyrex measuring cup
- Teaspoon

- Create a double boiler by filling a medium sauce pan half way full with water.
- Place a glass Pyrex measuring cup in the water.
- Add all ingredients EXCEPT vitamin E oil.
- Turn stove on medium heat and allow ingredients to completely melt.
- Remove from the stove and add the Vitamin E oil.
- Pour into containers.
- This recipe makes a little over 1 ounce.
Notes
- This recipe makes 1 ounce.
- It’s shelf life is 6 months. No preservative is necessary since all ingredients are oil based.
Ingredient Substitutions:
As far as substitutions, castor oil is must. It’s sticky and thick and helps with the staying power. Jojoba oil can be substituted for any nourishing carrier oil you have on hand. I linked white beeswax pellets but you could use yellow. It doesn’t make a difference except in the color of the finished product. If you wanted to use a plant based wax such as candelilla or carnauba you can. I posted more about vegan waxes if you need more details. You should reduce those waxes down from 2 tsp. just a bit. They tend to be a bit harder. Vitamin E is really nice to have in lip products. Plus, it acts as a natural preservative. However, if you don’t have it and don’t want to get it, leave it out.
Flavoring this recipe with Tutti Frutti flavoring is not at all necessary. Lately, I’ve been enjoying experimenting with candy flavoring and lip products. I got THIS set of 8 flavors. I’ve used the cherry flavor in an upcoming lip recipe and bubblegum in my lip oil recipe.
Not only do I have this DIY overnight lip mask recipe that came from the Laneige dupe recipe but I have another one that I used soy lecithin in that turned out really nice too. I’ll share it at some point!
